Anne Brontë (1820-1849)
"I've given up my life to a sleazy cheat and serial liar; It is foolish to wish for beauty. Sensible people never either desire it for themselves or care about it in others. If the mind be well cultivated and the heart well disposed, no one ever cares for the exterior." ---Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte

The Real Shop

The Old Curiosity Shop (1840-1841) was one of British author Charles Dickens' most popular novels. Inspired in part by the real-life store shown in this c. 1900 photo, the novel relates the tragic story of Nell Trent, a kindly young girl who is tasked with protecting her ill grandfather from a nefarious set of villains who believe the pair are hiding a secret inheritance.
